#027: Steve Solomon on being an Olympic finalist, balancing two careers, and the mindset of being the best in the world.
Steve Solomon is an Australian Olympic sprinter. He is a five-time defending Australian 400 metres champion. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London at the age of 19, Steve competed in the finals of the men's 400m race, placing eighth overall out of the field of 48 of the world’s best. He was the first Australian man in 24 years to reach the 400m Olympic final. Now he’s gearing up for Tokyo for a chance to be the best in the world.
In addition to his illustrious athletic career, Steve is passionate about high-performance, solving difficult problems, and helping people grow. He also is a professional at Uber, and is truly one of the most genuine and high performing humans I know.
We had a great convo around his back story and the crazy stroke of fate that led him to Stanford, what it was like racing in finals of the olympics, the effect that environment has on success, and how he balances both of his careers.
